Waratah Respite Services

Aged Care Accommodation, Disability Service Provider, Specialist Medical Services

In 1987, the Waratah Respite Centre opened as an adult day care centre in Azalea Ave. Coffs Harbour. The service was relocated in 1991 to the Waratah Respite Centre, which was constructed with funding from Home and Community Care. HACC services are designed to help older, frail or disabled people continue living in their homes for as long as they can.

The National Respite for Carers Program, established in 1993, provides funding to support evening respite for caregivers of adults with disabilities.

The “Maureen Guthrie Cottage”, a six-bed facility, was opened in 1994 after extensive lobbying by the community and fundraising to offer caregivers a respite. The Cottage was furnished by our long-term Management Committee member, Mr Des Kingdom, and Coffs City Rotary Club.

In 2005, the extension to include amenities for staff was undertaken. The extension was made possible by several years of fundraising efforts of the Management Committee, and a generous donation from a member of the community.

Waratah Respite Services is a proud and long-standing provider of flexible respite services for people living with dementia, other disabilities or older adults, as well as their caregivers, on the Coffs Coast and surrounding areas. Our unique service offers Centre-based social support groups as well as overnight respite accommodation in cottage style. Over the years, the service has had a positive impact on our clients’ independence, socialisation and wellbeing.

We offer social support, respite and overnight care for those with dementia or older people in Coffs Harbour.
