Solitary Islands Surf School

Sports & Recreation, Surf School

Solitary Islands Surf School was founded in 2011, the same year Surfing Australia launched its national junior development program VEGEMITE SurfGroms. This program has since been renamed Weet-Bix SurfGroms as well as nudie SurfGroms. It is now Woolworths SurfGroms.
Things got going pretty quickly from here! The Solitary Islands Surf school was located in the ideal locations along the northern beaches of Coffs Coast. The beaches are flat and offer good protection from the winds. This is ideal for surfers of any age and ability. The Solitary Islands Marine Park is right in the middle of our location, which makes it one of Australia’s best places to surf! !

The Solitary Islands Surf School, owned and operated Darryn Quigley.

Darryn Quigley spent the majority of his adult years surfing coaching and operating surf schools in Australia and all over the world. Darryn Quigley was hired as the Sports Development Manager for Surfing Western Australia in 2009. While the job was a dream, Darryn’s home was Emerald Beach on Coffs Coast. Darryn was ready to launch his own business after years of running surf schools and developing learn to surf programs.

In 2013, Sawtell Surf School joined the Solitary Islands Surf School. Caspian O’Donnell, the original founder of Sawtell Surf School, saw this partnership as an opportunity to join a dynamic operation. The addition of Sawtell Beach will add to the existing locations along the northern beaches of Coffs Coast. After a good surf lesson, Sawtell is only a 5 minute drive away from Coffs Harbour. It has some of Coffs Coast’s best restaurants and cafes. Caspian, one of the best-known and most respected surfers in the region, still runs our Sawtell operation.
