Bawrunga Aboriginal Medical Centre

Medical, Medical Centres, Specialist Medical Services

BAMS Aboriginal Medical Service has been providing medical services in New South Wales for 22 years. Our mission is to ensure the future sustainability of BAMS by using social innovation and strong governance as primary tools. We also want to expand our scope as a primary healthcare facilitator and consultant agency, and to deliver positive health outcomes while developing innovative programs to support and improve community health. BAMS’s fundamental goal as a community is to meet the medical and health needs of rural and remote communities (both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal) in New South Wales. BAMS’s mission is to promote holistic health care in the communities where BAMS is located, and to develop new medical services for other geographical areas using the BAMS model.
BAMS’s main focus is on chronic disease management and prevention, which includes a variety of community-based outreach programs using primary care, specialists and allied healthcare services.
BAMS will work to address the priorities set by the Board of Directors of Corporation made up of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Members, while also providing services for the wider community. This includes utilizing feedback and consultation from the community .
BAMS will continue to provide Medical Services and Clinics in Gulargambone, Dubbo (Western New South Wales), as well as in Gilgandra, near Gulargambone. The Mid North Coast region in New South Wales, is served by BAMS Clinics located in Nambucca Heads and Macksville, as well as the Bawrunga Coffs Harbour Super Clinic. BAMS will continue to provide local employment and training, including for Aboriginal people, in this way.
